How to remove pilling

Fabric pilling is the formation of small, fuzzy balls on the surface of a fabric. It detracts from the appearance of the fabric, making it look old and worn, and it is often difficult to restore a garment with fabric pilling to its original condition. Certain types of fibers and weaves are more prone to fabric pilling than others, but it is often a normal part of wear and tear.

Short or loose fibers on the surface of a fabric tend to tangle together, leading to fabric pilling. Fuzzier fabrics, like angora, are particularly prone to fabric pilling, since they are characterized by plentiful loose fibers. In other textiles, fabric pilling occurs either due to the natural tendency of fibers to migrate to the surface of a woven fabric or as a result of friction on the fabric surface, which loosens fibers and tangles them. This friction may be a result of wear and tear, or of improper laundering techniques. Fabric pilling is more likely to occur in areas of the clothing that experience more friction, such as under the arms and on the sides of a sweater. (source)

So how do you get rid of it?

You could invest in fabric shaver.

A fabric shaver is a handheld tool that resembles an electric razor. You simply “shave” the fabric, by turning the unit on and running it over the surface.
The fabric shaver will remove pilling as well as small amounts of lint, thread, and pet hair, giving your clothing a fresher look and feel. You can usually find a fabric shaver, also known as a lint shaver, for a reasonable price at your favorite retailer or drug store. Most include batteries, although with some models you will need to supply your own. A fabric shaver usually requires AA batteries, which are widely available and affordable.

Or you could get a much cheaper pilling comb

So what if you don't have time to go shopping but you really really want to wear that sweater/dress/whatever?

I think we all have SOME disposable razors in our bathroom right?

So get a disposable razor (best if it would be used), lay your garment down flat on strong surface and gently start shaving your garment, moving towards the bottom hem. Don't rush, take your time and do not put too much pressure on the razor.
