In February 2016, Tom Ford and Burberry announce "see-now-buy-now". Meaning, the collections are put on sale immediately after the runway presentation.
Diane Von Furstenberg offered few key items from her 2016 fall/winter collection after the runway show; Gucci few handbags.
Why am I even talking about it on my SEWING blog?
"See-now-buy-now" may change the face of fashion for good. It might mean, that in the future, no collection gets shown 3 months in advance before it hits the stores. There will be no waiting time, all the trends will be happening now, not in the near future.
And let's face it - all the big pattern companies get their ideas of off the runway, as do big ass retailers whom we shall not mention. Or do they cash out big mooneys for trend forecasting?
Where will it leave us, the makers who may rely on pattern companies to provide patterns for sewing clothing that are current? Because, most likely when they get the pattern out, it's already yesterdays news!
It may very well boost the sales of vintage clothing patterns, because well, fashion does go round and round. It may boost the sales of small indie designers who march to their own drum...it may even boost the sales of pattern cutting books... or it may all stay the way it is!
Am I overreacting? Most likely, yes... but if not...
