In search for the "perfect" sewing machine.

Vintage sewing machine add

I got my first home sewing machine back in 2004 as a graduation gift after finishing from the trade school. It’s Brother ES-2400. And I’ve been using it ever since. It does a fine job sewing lighter materials and you just gotta love the automatic buttonholes. But when it comes to speed and power thats where this machine does not fulfill my needs. It takes two people to sew heavier coats - one to hold the machine down and the other to sew. The machine struggles to sew several layers of thicker fabrics and so on. There’s only so much a teeny tiny plastic machine can do right?

And so I started my search for the new sewing machine. I have few conditions for it - it has to have speed and strength to deal with heavier fabrics, it has to have a good stitch and the machine has to last for a long time. It would be perfect it it would come without any extra bells and whistles.
I spent days googling for different companies and going through  product lists on their websites.
Sadly, most machines offered here, that might have the power and speed I need, are fully computerised machines with A LOT of bells and whistles. A LOT! And the prices! Seem a bit too much in my opinion.

I felt like giving up and just going for the obvious choice - an industrial sewing machine (which is my ultimate dream boat). Sadly I do not have enough space in my work room for a big machine like an industrial sewing machine. And theres also the fact that in few years I might have to give up my work room and make space for the next generation (hopefully LOL).

But then I found Janome 1600P series when I was shopping for trims online. I wasn’t aware of the fact that there were single stitch home sewing machines available. Well if Janome has one, then other companies must have them also! After another search that felt like it took forever I finally found one that's available here also  - Brother PQ-1500S. I decided not to listen to the online reviews about both of these machines and base my decision on cold hard facts.

After comparing features and extras of both machines I decided to give a call to a mechanic I know.
His answer was quick and short - “Janome”. And who am I to argue with a guy who has worked years and years in sewing industry and who has fixed home sewing machines on the side for longer than I’ve been on this earth?
Decision made. I am getting the Janome 1600P. Now I’ll just have to wait for March because they don’t have that machine in stock currently. Sadly.

I can’t wait to get my hands on that machine and see what it really can do!
