Let's get organized: DIY memo board

Materials needed:

• produce boxes (I used 1 1/2 medium sized boxes)
• PVA glue (or something similar)
• padding material (cotton batting etc. I used double layer of fleece)
• double sided tape
• fabric (to cover the board)
• ribbon
• buttons or pearls
• jewelry wire or thread
• hooks for hanging (I used two sets of Tesa Powerstrips Picture Hooks) 
• leveler

 

Tools needed:

• Staple gun and staples <-- OPTIONAL
• Pencil
• Measuring tape
• Straight edge (a metal ruler would be the best)
• Utility knife (or a jig saw) 
• Hot glue gun
• Scissors

How I did it:

• Cut the boxes, lay them down flat and glue them together. Make sure to apply enough of glue and spread it out as evenly as you can. Put something heavy on the boxes for weight and let them dry.
  I used 3 sides from 2 boxes and ended up with a 0.6 inch (1,5cm) thick board.
  
• When it's dry, measure and mark your board size on the boxes and cut it out.
  I used utility knife and a metal ruler but jig saw would have been easier and much faster. (yes you can use a saw to cut cardboard. Just be careful and follow all the safety requirements)
• Paste the double sided tape along the edges of your board base.
• Remove the protective film from the tape and place your padding material on to the board. Smooth it flat. Cut excess padding away so it would be even with the edges of your board.
  I used two leyers of fleece as padding and I glued the layers together with double sided tape. 
• Cut out your fabric leaving ca 2 inches (5cm) extra all the way around the board.
• Staple or glue on your fabric.
  Yes, if the boxes you use are thick and strong enough you can use your staple gun, if not, hot glue will work as well. Just remember to let it dry ;)
  Start stapeling from one side, when the first side is done, staple the opposite side from it. Don't forget to tighten the fabric slightly.
• Measure and mark the grid. Measure and cut the ribbons leaving about 2 inches extra on each end.
  Lay the grid down and pin it to the now fabric covered board. Flip the board over and hot glue the ribbons. Dont forget to tighten the ribbons as you glue them.
• Attatch pearls or buttons trough the board where the ribbons cross over eaqchother with either needle and thread or wire.
  If you use thread to attatch the pearls, put a drop of glue where the thread sticks out on the other side of the board. That will seccure the thread tight.
• Cover the back side with PVA and glue some craft paper or scrap fabric over it. Smooth it out nice and even. Let it dry.
  This will make sure that everything I stuck trough the board and attatched to the left side will stay put.
• Mark where go your ribbon loops for hanging and glue them onto the back side of the board. Let it try.
• Using leveler, mark hook placement onto the wall. You will need four hooks. Since the cardboard lacks of weight it needs to be attatched from all 4 corners to keep it nice and tight to the wall.
• Attatch your hooks to the wall and when your new memoboard is nice and dry, hang it to the wall and start organizing your notes and what nots!
