60´inspired minimalistic mini

Again sorry for the grainy pictures, I still have no idea apparently how to use my camera
I was in desperate need of day dress that can be easily dressed up for a Christmas dinner or a party. Thus, this one was sewn.
It's made from a medium weight knit fabric. The dress has pockets in the side seams, a sporty decorative stripe sewn on the chest area to make it a wee bit more interesting.
I love that dress so much, that I wore it for half of December! And it was so easy to dress it up by simply adding a long string of pearls and dressing my legs in fancy tights.

Victory Patterns solid blue "Simone" dress

Victory Patterns Simone Screencap
I have wanted to sew this pattern for as long as I'v known of it. But it's a dress. Yes. I do not get along with those light fabrics that one uses for dressmaking. So, this friday I put on my big girl panties and went fabric shopping for "Simone".

Sewing Project Gone Wrong

From time to time I have ideas that go AWFULLY  wrong and I have the “What the EF was I thinking” head scratching moment.

A week or so ago I saw the new Free People campaign featuring Crystal Renn and instantly was drawn to this lace dress.

I thought - “Hey, this is something I can easily make and I WOULD DEFINITELY wear this!”  BUT just in case I wanted to make sure I haven't gone totally cray-cray and asked my friend Linnea on twitter what she thinks of the dress.

Me: Is it too hipster???
Linnea: Huh?
Me: the link to the dress?
Linnea: just showed up... Umm I don't like it :/
Me: But is it okay if I like it??? I think it would look nice on me...
Linnea: I’m not gonna wear it, you can wear whatever you want.
Me: I know, but would it look good on me?
Linnea: I don’t think it looks good on anyone :/ . Sorry

See, I should have listened to my friend!
Consider yourself warned, dear reader, because the following is on the fugly side on the pleasing specter.

"Tie Me In" jersey dress

I started making this dress last year right before the summer reached Estonia. Sadly the Gods of handcraft were not on my side and I couldn't finish the dress because I was unable to find a lace applique that fit and suited the dress.

Few weeks ago I randomly walked into one of three fabric stores I have in my hometown and low and behold there it was - a lace applique that would most definitely work! I had to color it before I could use it to be more blueish black, that was just a teeny tiny obstacle.
The pattern is self drafted, you can find the guide how to draft the pattern yourself below the cut.

Paar nädalat tagasi jalutasin suvaliselt ühte kanga poodi sisse, ja seal see oligi - aplikatsioon mis kohe kindlasti sobis minu ideega. Kahjuks pidin selle koju jõudes üle värvima, kuna aplikatsioon ei olnud sinakas must.
Lõike kleidi jaoks visandasin ise ja juhendi samalaadse kleidi lõike tegemiseks leiad all pool :)
