Victory Patterns solid blue "Simone" dress

Victory Patterns Simone Screencap
I have wanted to sew this pattern for as long as I'v known of it. But it's a dress. Yes. I do not get along with those light fabrics that one uses for dressmaking. So, this friday I put on my big girl panties and went fabric shopping for "Simone".

I was almost set on mixing two different prints for this dress after seeing Gingers version of "Simone" but holding varios prints in all the shades possible infront of the mirror in the store against me, I was reminded of the fact that I am dead scared of prints! Thats true. I am soild color kind of gal...for now. (thou I did purchase a black/white geometric print cotton/silk mix fabric for something LOL) So I quickly moved on to solids and found this mutet blue viscose. I really like the color.

It has a real nice drape to it and falls beautifully

I ended up lowering the front hem about 10 cm so it would hit my legs right above the knees and that was the only alteration I made to the pattern.

I even made my own piping
All in all I am really pleased with my end result, (I know I can do it better next time!). Even thou the fabric was hard to handle for me, (I am really not used to soft flowy fabrics) and there was a lot of hairpulling and cussing involved I'm thinking about making version 2 of this pattern!

  2. Well done! The piping is perfect. I'm not a huge fan of the hi-low look, and I really love how you lowered the front hem. Hope you enjoy wearing it. Visiting via Sew Many Ways.
